“By way of record, at least as a note, this book gathers part of the public speeches we gave between 2003 and 2011, during our function as Rector of the University of the Azores. This means that, in this initiative, the nature of the historian prevails, always alert to the collection of all testimonies from the past, even if aimed at the achievement of the synthesis, rather than the character of the judge.
Instead of annals, which record all the incidences of institutional daily life, we have opted for the gathering of useful elements for the history of the University of the Azores. In fact, during the eight years of the two rectorial mandates, we listed nearly 600 public speeches”.
