The Viola da Terra is a traditional Azorean instrument, which is also known as viola de arame or viola de dois corações. It is an instrument that is played in different social and cultural contexts of the Azorean people, from the feasts and follies of the Holy Spirit to the ballhos, challenge songs, “desgarradas” and much more.
This guitar has a set of characteristic elements that represent the identity of the Azorean people both in the context of the islands and in the close relationship with the Azorean emigrant communities in the Diaspora.
