The cult of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres is the biggest religious festival on the island of São Miguel and one of the biggest in the Azores! Did you know that on the island of Santa Maria they also celebrate this festival as well as in other places where the Azoreans emigrated to?
It is also customary in the Azores make the “registos” of Santo Cristo, and this saint has always been important to the Azoreans as shown by the presence of a “registo” in the painting “Emigrants” by the painter from Domingos Rebelo!
This year because of the Coronavirus crisis, it was not possible to hold the festivities of Senhor Santo Cristo according to tradition, but certainly that Santo Cristo was and is always in the minds and hearts of Azoreans and their emigrants!
