First of all, we wanted to congratulate the Regional Directorate for Communities on their initiative!
International migrant day is dedicated to all people who migrate. Being an immigrant or emigrant depends on the point of view. For Azoreans, those who left for the USA, Canada, etc. are emigrants. For Canadians and Americans, the Azoreans who arrived there were immigrants.
Throughout human history, migration has been a constant and represents a courageous way for people to overcome difficulties and go in search of a better life! Nowadays with advances in communication technologies as well as in transport, people more easily move to other places.
We also wanted to dedicate this day to all the people who had the courage to leave their beloved lands and go in search of a better life, throughout history and in the present, with special affection for Azorean emigrants!
