Today is the international day for the eradication of poverty! Nowadays a large part of the world population is still very poor! They work in dangerous working conditions, their homes have little security, they have poor alimentation as well as little access to health care.
The Azores since the Revolution of April 25th have developed a lot, namely in education, in health as well as the economy, however, before the revolution, they were a very poor area with a high rate of illiteracy, many people were hungry and there was not the amount of goods that exist today, with many people walking barefoot and the majority of the population working in agriculture manually. Due to these conditions of poverty, many Azoreans decided to emigrate in search of better living conditions.
