INTERVIEW WITH MR. RÚBENS PAVÃO!!!

18 de October, 2020

Here at the Azorean Emigrants Association we are always studying and researching in order to know more about the Azorean emigration!
This week we had another interview for a documentary about emigration and aviation in the Azores, made by the Ph.D. historian Sérgio Rezendes with Azorean, Mr. Rúbens Pavão!
Mr. Rúbens Pavão was a teacher for many years and played a fundamental role in establishing a connection between Azorean schools and schools in Azorean communities in the United States, and he was a pioneer in connecting the Azores with its emigrants.
In the conversation with historian Rezendes and the Azorean Emigrants Association, Rúbens Pavão, now 88 years old, told us about his early memories of emigration to the Azores, about the poverty that existed in the islands, such as houses with straw roofs, barefooted people, etc., as well as about several situations in the Azores, such as the rationing of products during World War II and the British and American military planes in Santana during that war.
