The Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute (PBBI) at California State University, Fresno, has just signed a protocol with the Regional Directorate for Communities of the Azores Government aimed at creating more opportunities to promote the Azores at this university, with conferences, publications, exchanges and research on the Azorean diaspora.

According to Diniz Borges, founder and executive director of the PBBI, the protocol “is an important instrument for the work done at this university where Azoreanism has a strong presence and where the great concentration of studies are connected to the Azores and the community of Portuguese origin in California.

This protocol is expected to further intensify the connection of the state of California with the archipelago, with preservation and dissemination of the Azores among the student population, administrative faculty and our community dispersed throughout the state.

As stated by the Regional Director of Communities, José Andrade: “Through this combined effort, we will be able to better serve our communities in the State of California, in order to preserve and enhance the Azorean identity on the west coast of the United States.”
