Gilberto Cabral Bernardo was born in Pico da Pedra, São Miguel Island, on June 17th 1951.
Since he was a child he showed an inclination for arts, namely drawing, but, due to economic factors, he had to go to work at the age of 11, having worked in civil construction, commerce, industry and public services.
It was as a night student that he took the General Electrician Course at Domingos Rebelo School and, later, the 11th grade at Antero de Quental Secondary School.
Currently, he is retired from the Social Security services, having worked twenty years in the Casa do Povo de Pico da Pedra, in the Social Security services, and three years in the Centre for Cash Benefits of Ponta Delgada.
His vocation for the plastic arts led him to attend classes with the sculptors Canto da Maya, Luísa Constantino and Soares Branco, having worked with these last two masters, for some years, at the Academy of Arts of Ponta Delgada.
He has participated in several individual and collective exhibitions. Her works include painting, sculpture and medals.
In the area of letters, he wrote several poems and composed melodies for the musical groups where he played. He continues to write poems and his prose works are mostly about local history, and are published in newspapers, in the Casa do Povo bulletin and in brochures also edited by this institution and by the Parish Council of Pico da Pedra.
