“For many decades now, New History has ventured into areas of study previously reserved for disciplines such as anthropology and ethnography, with the aim of diversifying and enriching its field of study, contributing decisively to the appreciation of a fascinating facet of history, that of daily life.
This book aims, precisely, to leave a few brushstrokes about daily life in the Azores over the centuries, highlighting not only aspects of material existence, such as food, housing, clothing, utensils, or the possession (or not) of wealth/property, but also issues of the spiritual and mental nature of Azorean populations, revealing their way of feeling and thinking and the way they reacted to the various setbacks of everyday life, such as natural disasters, illness, or the proximity of death”.
