PALCUS (Portuguese American Leadership Council of the United States) is a non-partisan, non-profit organization founded in 1991 by successful Portuguese-Americans. Based in Washington D.C., it has defined the interests of Portuguese-Americans in the United States, promoting the community professionally, politically, and culturally through channels of communication between the government of the Republic of Portugal and the US Congressional delegation.
Throughout its history, the organization has evolved and matured, working consistently and tirelessly, weathering changing political and economic climates, creating and expanding its community-oriented programs in the areas of government affairs, international affairs, educational opportunities, Portuguese language and culture, outreach and recognition of the Portuguese-American community’s success.
PALCUS is committed to serving the Portuguese-American community through increasingly active government relations, promoting greater awareness of ethnic accomplishments, and fostering stronger ties between Portugal and the United States.
In gratitude for the exemplary service provided to the Portuguese-American community, the Azorean Emigrants Association had the privilege, in July 2021, to distinguish PALCUS with the Azores of a Thousand Islands Award, during the first edition of the event with the same name, which aims to honor institutions and personalities that elevate the name of the Azores within the Portuguese communities.
