15 de November, 2021

Journey made by Azorean emigrants to reach Hawaii.

We know that the Azoreans travelled the world, and among several places, they arrived in Hawaii! It was a Portuguese who, in the service of Spain, traced the position of the islands of Hawaii as early as 1555, but only three centuries later did more Europeans come to these islands!

The Azoreans and other Portuguese who emigrated to Hawaii worked in agriculture, especially sugar cane. And did you know that Hawaii’s famous instrument, the ukulele, is descended from the Portuguese cavaquinho? And do you know what ukulele means? Bouncing flea! And this is because of the movement of the hands when playing!
