ALFRED LEWIS BILINGUAL POETRY READING SERIES

A series of readings in memory of Alfred Lewis, poet born on the island of Flores (1902).

The Instituto Português Além-Fronteiras, PBBI of California State University at Fresno will launch on February 15 (Wednesday) a series of bilingual readings with poets from the Diaspora and Portuguese-speaking countries, highlighting the creativity of the Lusophone Diaspora in the US and Canada, as well as poets with roots in the Azores.

Reading the works published in both languages will thus give them renown, bringing to the reader not only the perspective of ties of belonging but also a sense of the universality of the Portuguese language and greater recognition of the Portuguese communities in the US and Canada. The readings, besides contributing to the inspiration of new talents, will unite communities around the language and cultural values of their respective ancestors, giving new community perspectives to strengthen identity and presence in American and Canadian multiculturalism.

The first online session, on February 15th, at noon (12 am, PDT) and 3 pm (EDT) will feature poetry in Portuguese and English by Paula Neves, Sam Pereira, Rosangelina Baptista, Scott Edward Anderson, and guest poet from Portugal, Alberto Pereira.
