“Diaspora, Allegiance and Identity in the Armed Forces of a new homeland” with Petr Labrentsev and Walter Moniz
The establishment of the Memorial to the Emigrant Soldier, in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel Island, Azores, has generated a number of pertinent questions about Portuguese emigrants’ and their descendants’ service in the Armed Forces of their new homeland. While broadly looking at the present-day Portuguese diaspora, thisroundtable addresses the critical issues of Identity and Loyalty of military and intelligence officers to a country and a flag, from socio-cultural, legal, and security perspectives.
