CELEBRATION OF CANADA AND USA DAY

Last July 1st (Friday), we celebrated Canada Day in the City Halls of Ponta Delgada and Ribeira Grande with a commemorative ceremony where, in both cities, it was possible to have the Canadian flag hoisted, as a sign of homage to all our emigrants that moved to this country. This event had the collaboration of the Counselor of the Azorean Diaspora for the Province of Ontario, Matthew Correia, as well as the presence of the Canadian Consul in Ponta Delgada. We also had the pleasure to listen and sing the Canadian anthem to the sound of the guitar of the land, played by Ricardo Melo, in the noble hall of the Town Hall of Ribeira Grande.

Yesterday, we also commemorated the 4th July, Independence Day of the United States of America, in the Main Hall of Ribeira Grande Town Hall. For that, we had the collaboration of the Azorean Diaspora Counselor for the Rhode Island area, Márcia da Ponte, having the American flag hoisted in the Town Hall. It was also possible to sing the US anthem to the sound of an electric guitar, played by Eduardo Medeiros.

In both events we had the presence of the mayors of the mentioned municipalities, as well as the important presence of Canadian and American emigrants and our partners who were in São Miguel on these dates.
