Christmas is coming and with it all the decorations and Christmas lights that characterize the season, as well as the customs and traditions that are kept from year to year during the festival season of Christmas in the Azores.
In the Azores, even in November, we can already find many streets lit up for Christmas, such as the streets of Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo, where the Christmas spirit already reigns.

In Povoação and the parish of Furnas the last preparations are being made for the inauguration of its famous nativity scene and street illumination. The Furnas nativity scene is one of the most visited in the island of São Miguel, and it differs from others precisely because its figures are distributed in the area of the fumaroles, in this parish. Every year, many families have the tradition of visiting Furnas to see this unique nativity scene amidst the smoke of the volcanic calderas.
This public holiday, pay a visit to Furnas and attend the inauguration of its nativity scene at 8.30 p.m., which will include performances by the philharmonic band and folk group from the parish, Sociedade Harmónica Furnense and Grupo Folclórico das Camélias.
In the village of Povoação, the inauguration of the Christmas lighting and crib will be on Friday, December 2, at 8:30 p.m., near the Povoação Town Hall. This event will have the entertainment of the Light Orchestra and the Choir of Povoação. In the Municipal Garden there will be a concert by Lina Freitas Quartet.
