70 Years of diplomatic relations between Portugal and Canada

On June 10th, at 6pm, at the Ribeiragrandense Theatre, the Association of Azorean Emigrants and the Canadian Embassy in Portugal will dedicate the Day of Portugal and Communities to 70 years of diplomatic relations between Portugal and Canada.

The event will include commemorative speeches where the Government of the Azores will be present, as well as the Canadian Embassy, the Ribeira Grande City Hall and the AEAzores.

During the ceremony, a historical and photographic exhibition “70 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Portugal and Canada” will be presented. This exhibition is curated by the Azorean Emigrants Association and visitors will be able to see the almost 600-year old relationship between Portugal and Canada. From this exhibition, the Azorean presence is quite relevant for almost all the 400 years.

Besides this exhibition, another one by Humberta Araújo, with historical photos of Azoreans who left for Canada starting in 1954 from the Port of Ponta Delgada, will also be part of this event.

The celebrations have the support of the Canadian Embassy in Lisbon, the Ribeira Grande City Hall and the Government of the Azores.
