Did you know that like many azoreans they also migrate? And so that’s why there is a cory’s shearwater in the symbol of the Association of the Azorean Emigrants, but these birds migrate to warmer areas, where is spring and summer to mate and reproduce.

However, the relationship between azorean people and this birds wasn’t always pacific, because back in the day azoreans used to eat their meat, its fat was used for lighting and the feathers were used to make headboards and mattresses.

Curiously, the several inhabitants of each island have their nicknames, and the people from Santa Maria have the nickname of Cory’s Shearwaters.
