Have you ever heard about or tasted malassadas? Malassadas are a specialty from the azorean gastronomy, but especially from the Island of S\u00e3o Miguel! It\u2019s very common to make this sweet by the time of Carnival\/Mardi Gras, but they are also served in other festivities! It\u2019s name comes from being \u00abbadly roasted\u00bb (mal assadas in portuguese)!<\/p>

The recipe consists of flour, eggs, milk, sugar, yeast, butter and it is also common to sometimes add brandy and lemon and after kneading the dough, it\u2019s fried in hot oil.<\/p>

Azorean emigrants took this recipe to the places that they emigrated, and it is possible, for example, to taste malassadas in Bermuda, known as Portuguese Donuts and in 1980 the Hawaii Council of Portuguese Heritage organized a contest to prepare malassadas!<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
