Since the 19th century, Azoreans arrived on American land in the great whales of New England. Whaling in the Atlantic soon passed to the Pacific Ocean and many Azoreans began to arrive in California in search of gold, but also work in California’s fertile lands, especially in large dairy farms, but also in agriculture. Today there are more than 330,000 Azorean-Portuguese in this American region.
